World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's new Classic+ experience, expanding the original 2004 game with new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, and playable options. It retains the level-60 cap while introducing new content for players to explore.
With the launch scheduled for November 4, 2026, here's everything confirmed so far: the release details, new features, access requirements, and post-launch roadmap.
WoW Forever is a new, permanent branch of World of Warcraft that sits alongside Modern WoW and WoW Classic rather than replacing either. It stays rooted in the original level-60 era, adding new stories and gameplay systems instead of moving into later expansions.
This approach gives players more reasons to explore Azeroth, level characters, run dungeons, and take on new challenges while keeping the familiar Classic foundations intact.
The release date is November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. Blizzard describes it as a permanent experience that will continue to grow through regular content updates.
An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time includes access to the game, so a separate expansion purchase isn't required. That said, some optional upgrades unlock additional benefits, including the Skyborne race and its starting experience.
WoW Forever expands the original world with new and reimagined locations, including:
The game adds more than 1,000 quests across levels 1 to 60, expanding the leveling journey instead of concentrating all new content at maximum level.
There are also nine new five-player dungeons, with level ranges spanning 13 to 60:
| Dungeon | Level Range | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | 13-18 | Beneath Ironforge, Dun Morogh |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15-20 | Ruins above the Undercity, Tirisfal Glades |
| Excavation Site | 24-29 | Above Whelgar's Excavation, Wetlands |
| City of Dalaran | 28-33 | Alterac Mountains |
| The Drowned City | 35-40 | Off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | 40-45 | Riverglades |
| Alcaz Prison | 48-53 | Alcaz Island, Dustwallow Marsh |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55-60 | Azshara |
| Shaper's Terrace | 58-60 | Northern hills of Un'Goro Crater |
The dungeons are spread across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, taking players from the depths beneath Ironforge to the northern hills of Un'Goro Crater. Some also have special entry requirements. The City of Dalaran requires a faction-specific attunement questline, while the entrance to The Drowned City lies underwater off Stranglethorn Vale. These varied locations and level ranges add new group content throughout the journey to level 60.
The Skyborne are a new playable race with a starting experience on Zephras Isle. Players choose whether their character joins the Horde or Alliance, making the race neutral in faction selection rather than tied to just one side.
Skyborne characters have faction-specific class options:
The race also has unique customization options, racial abilities, and Druid forms. Its starting storyline explores the Skyborne's elemental heritage and the challenges facing their island home. Blizzard's Skyborne overview provides further details.
WoW Forever also introduces additional race and class combinations beyond the original game. The announcement trailer showed an Undead Paladin, though players should check Blizzard's confirmed class list for the final available combinations.
Despite these additions, the level cap remains 60 at launch. The goal is to expand the original experience rather than raise the level cap.
WoW Forever includes several rendering improvements while retaining the recognizable visual style of Classic WoW.
The announced technical updates include:
These changes aim to refresh familiar locations without abandoning the original art direction. Blizzard has also highlighted environmental details such as mist over Darkshore's waters and moonlight filtering through Ashenvale's trees.
The roadmap includes new endgame content and features following the November launch.
| November 4, 2026 | Global launch |
| December 9, 2026 | Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20 players), and Onyxia's Lair (40 players) |
| Winter 2026-2027 | Planned Hardcore mode |
| Spring 2027 | More raids, dungeons, and world content |
| Summer 2027 | Further content updates |
All three raids are designed for level-60 players. Barrow Deeps takes groups into the depths beneath Mount Hyjal, while Hyjal Summit offers a larger raid near the World Tree Nordrassil. Onyxia's Lair, located in Dustwallow Marsh, requires a 40-player group, and players must complete a faction-specific attunement questline to enter.
Hardcore mode is planned for Winter 2026 to 2027, followed by further content updates in Spring and Summer 2027. These are planned release windows, so check Blizzard's official WoW Forever page for announcements and schedule changes.
Players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time can access WoW Forever without purchasing a separate expansion.
Access to the Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting experience requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition. Optional paid editions also offer extras such as cosmetics, mounts, game time, and other benefits, depending on the package.
The limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection includes Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, alongside additional items. Review the official WoW Forever page for current edition details and purchase terms.
WoW Forever expands Classic's level-60 experience with new zones, more than 1,000 quests, nine dungeons, the Skyborne race, and additional class combinations. With three raids scheduled for December 9 and more content planned for 2027, check Blizzard's official WoW Forever page for the latest updates.
