WoW Forever Skyborne Race Guide: Classes, Racials & Zephras Isle

WoW Forever's new race is the Skyborne. These neutral elves can join either the Alliance or Horde, with different class options and faction-specific abilities. Every Skyborne begins on Zephras Isle, a new sky-themed starting zone for levels 1 to 12.

The race and its starting experience require a paid upgrade, so is the Skyborne worth buying? This guide covers the unlock requirements, available classes, Skyborne racials, and the best class choices for the race.

Who Are the Skyborne?

The Skyborne are elves descended from Highborne exiles. Their ancestors made a pact with the wind spirits of Skywall, who helped them establish a home on Zephras Isle, a floating island.

After the spirits disappeared, the island began to fail, and the Skyborne divided over how to respond.

  • Windshapers join the Horde and seek to restore their bond with the elementals.
  • High Order join the Alliance and pursue arcane knowledge and greater independence from the elementals.

This division explains the faction-specific class options without making the two groups separate playable races.

How to Unlock the Skyborne

The Skyborne aren't included with a standard WoW subscription or Game Time. Those provide access to WoW Forever itself, while the race and Zephras Isle starting experience require the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition. You can't unlock the race through quests or reputation.

Pack Skyborne Access Other Benefits
Heroic Pack Unlocks the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience. Includes one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code and other listed pack rewards.
Epic Pack Includes Skyborne access. Includes three Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes in total, 30 days of game time, and additional cosmetics, pets, and tabards.
Collection Includes Skyborne access and the Epic Pack benefits. Includes all Epic Pack benefits, Warcraft III: Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, and additional Housing decor.

Check Blizzard's official WoW Forever page for current prices, regional availability, and edition benefits. Early name reservation is a separate step, and names are first-come, first-served.

If you only want to play a standard race, you don't need the Skyborne upgrade at all.

Skyborne Classes: Alliance vs. Horde

Skyborne can access six of WoW's nine classes across both factions, but each individual faction has five available options.

Class Alliance (High Order) Horde (Windshaper)
Warrior Yes Yes
Hunter Yes Yes
Rogue Yes Yes
Druid Yes Yes
Mage Yes No
Shaman No Yes
Paladin, Priest, Warlock No No

Two important restrictions stand out. Alliance Skyborne can't be Shamans, so if you want an Alliance Shaman, you'll need another eligible race, such as a Dwarf. Skyborne also can't be Paladins, Priests, or Warlocks on either faction.

Choose your faction based on your friends and guild, then make sure your preferred class is actually available there. Being a neutral race doesn't remove the usual faction restrictions on grouping.

Skyborne Racials Explained

Skyborne share three racial traits and receive one additional ability based on their faction.

Racial Faction Effect
Walk on Air Alliance and Horde Lets Skyborne glide through the air.
Wind Blessed Alliance and Horde Increases Haste by 1%.
Elemental Insight Alliance and Horde Increases damage dealt to Elemental enemies by 5%.
Read Leyline Alliance Activates a ley line, increasing Health and Mana regeneration by 100%.
Skysight Horde Increases movement speed by 10%.

Both factions share Walk on Air, Wind Blessed, and Elemental Insight. Alliance Skyborne can activate Read Leyline for increased Health and Mana regeneration, while Horde Skyborne get a 10% movement-speed increase from Skysight.

Which Faction Racial Is Better?

Read Leyline may appeal to Alliance players who want extra Health and Mana recovery between fights. Skysight offers movement convenience for Horde players traveling between objectives.

Neither ability should decide your faction by itself. Your preferred class, friends, guild, and group availability generally matter more than a racial bonus.

Walk on Air is a glide, not permanent flight, so keep that in mind. Elemental-related racial effects should also be treated as situational rather than assumed to provide a universal damage advantage.

Zephras Isle: The Skyborne Starting Zone

All Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle, a floating island featuring wind spirits and elemental architecture. The starting experience covers roughly levels 1 to 12 and introduces the race's history along with the conflict between the Windshapers and High Order.

For a smoother start:

  • Complete the main story quests. They introduce the island and its people.
  • Test your racial abilities. Learn how Walk on Air works before relying on it while exploring.
  • Keep up with class progression. Skyborne Druids still need to follow the usual form-unlock requirements.
  • Plan your next zones. After the starting experience, your faction and chosen route will shape the rest of your leveling journey.

The exact post-island leveling path may vary, so avoid locking yourself into a single route when planning your character's progress.

Which Skyborne Class Should You Pick?

There's no single best Skyborne class for everyone. Choose according to your preferred role and how you want to level.

Your Goal Recommended Class Why
Easier solo questing Hunter A pet can draw enemy attention while you attack from range
Flexibility across group roles Druid Can tank, heal, or deal damage
Dungeon tanking Warrior Offers a dedicated tanking playstyle
Stealth and control Rogue Suits players who enjoy stealth and tactical combat
Ranged spell damage Mage (Alliance) A spell-focused damage option
Healing, totems, and damage Shaman (Horde) Offers several group roles

Our pick for flexibility is Druid. It adapts to different group needs and features Skyborne-specific form appearances, though those forms change the visuals rather than the class's core abilities or specializations.

For straightforward solo questing, Hunter is another strong starting option. Your preferred playstyle matters more than picking a class just because of its race.

Is the Skyborne Worth Buying?

Consider the upgrade if:

  • You want to play WoW Forever's new race and explore its starting story.
  • You like the Skyborne appearance and unique Druid forms.
  • You want access to the race's faction-specific class options.

Skip it if:

  • Your preferred class is Paladin, Priest, or Warlock.
  • You're happy playing one of the standard races.
  • You'd rather spend on other game content than an optional race unlock.

The Skyborne add a new race, a dedicated starting zone, and distinct Alliance and Horde class choices to WoW Forever. Choose your faction based on your group, pick a class you'll enjoy through the level-60 journey, and buy the Heroic Pack only if the race and its starting experience genuinely appeal to you.

WoW Forever is scheduled to launch globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. For current unlock details and game updates, check Blizzard's official WoW Forever page.
